All
members of the equestrian industry know that invention, innovation and
sound business ideas are what form the rock of many a successful
equestrian product, but this has now been proved to the wider world
thanks to television programme Dragons’ Den.
Kay Russell, founder of equine cooling bandages Equi-N-icE, presented her new product Physicool to the famous Dragons’ Den panel of business giants and walked out with a £100,000 investment. Kay had been approached by the BBC
earlier in the year and on Wednesday 26th August she appeared On the BBC Two programme, facing dragons Duncan Bannatyne, James Caan, Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden and Theo Paphitis, looking for investment in her company.
Equi-N-icE, a self-cooling product for horses, has already proved to be a success for Kay, and Physicool uses a very similar idea to cool human’s limbs after strenuous training. Kay recognised that the exercise and medical market is completely different to the equine market and redesigned the product and business plan to suit, resulting in Physicool.
Unlike many on this popular TV show, Kay was successful and Deborah Meaden invested £100,000 and took a 30% share of business.
“I’m so pleased Deborah has offered to invest in Equi-N-icE and Physicool,” said Kay. ‘Not only is she West Country born-and-bred like me, she knows the leisure industry inside out and also has a great love of horses, so she will be extremely helpful to my goal of making Equi-N-icE and Physicool into global brands.”
